Alt-pop singer-songwriter PYNKIE, aka Lindsey Radice, recently introduced her new single/music video, “Plz,” a track from her forthcoming long-player, Songies, slated to drop on August 18.
“Plz” chronicles the highs and lows of a Relationship, be it one you’ve been trying to navigate for years or one you’ve simply built up in your head.
PYNKIE explains, “It’s about hoping and believing that a relationship will ultimately work out through the rollercoaster of ups and downs. The fast tempo and high-energy instrumentation of the song are coupled with soft drawn-out vocal melodies, creating a combined feeling of chaos and composure. Those mixed feelings mirror the relationship at the center of the song’s theme.”
A full-time Registered Nurse from New Jersey, PYNKIE describes herself as a “songmaker + nurse.” She began making music when a friend introduced her to free recording software in her college dorm.
“When I started making music, it was definitely a joke at first. But then I started taking myself more seriously. I felt like I could do a little more than just making songs about cup noodles,” PYNKIE shares.
PYNKIE reveals how everything took off, “I would release demos on Soundcloud, and people just started to repost them or whatever. And it just became this little thing. It’s a bit of an underground scene where people like things that sound like shit. But for my official releases, and this type of music, I feel like it has to be perfect, so I spend a lot of time on that.”
Since then, PYNKIE’s music has amassed more than two million streams on Spotify, along with performing at an official Gorilla vs. Bear showcase, being featured on YouTube’s Majestic Casual, signing with Rough Trade Publishing, and being highlighted in elite media outlets.
Talking about her upcoming album, Songies, PYNKIE says, “Every song flows into the next, telling some strange, dreamy story. The nostalgic feel of the songs mixed with modern synth soundscapes conveys colorful emotion and warmth.”
“Plz” opens on a low-slung, rambling acoustic guitar flowing into a pushing alt-pop melody flavored with hints of shoegaze and dream-pop. The driving rhythm infuses the tune with propelling motion as dreamy harmonics give the song luxurious washes of vibrant dynamism.
PYNKIE’s soft, almost delicate vocals imbue the lyrics with delicious tonal nuances, creamy and intoxicatingly fragrant.
