TOWIE’s James Lock has revealed a lengthy list of his surgery procedures as he opened up on his body dysmorphia battle.
The ITVBe show star candidly told Good Morning Britain‘s Thursday episode how he “can’t look at pictures” of himself due to his intense self-scrutiny.
James admitted he was sometimes “being irrational” yet had been advised by TOWIE’s wellbeing team that he may have Body Dysmorphia.
This is a mental health condition where “a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance,” according to the NHS.
The model told how he started to re-vamp his look with a hair transplant, before having his ears and teeth done.
TOWIE‘s James had further surgery on his eyes and nose in January and has now conceded: “It’s got carried away.”
Talking to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls he said despite the pep-ups and use of steroids, which he regrets, he still has niggling anxieties of his appearance.
He admitted: “I still think a certain way.
“I know sometimes I am being irrational.
“I know I am a good looking guy and in good shape but I will still find fault.
“It’s got to a point where I can’t look at pictures,” before adding he now sends snaps to his manager to vet, because he can’t bring himself to view them.
He then added: “I have spoken to family and friends who say I am a bit crazy.”
What is body dysmorphia?
JAMES Lock has bravely opened up on his battle with body dysmorphia – but what is it?
The NHS describes BDD as: “A mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance.”
Crucially these ‘flaws’ are unnoticeable to anyone else.
But the health service adds it’s important to note having BDD doesn’t mean you’re vain or self-obsessed.
It states the condition can in fact be very distressing and have a big impact on someone’s life.
James was appearing on the ITV daytime series alongside Tory MP Luke Evans, who is also a doctor.
He wants to introduce policy to ensure all edited images are clearly labelled as such.
Meanwhile, James showed off his “new face” in January after starring in The Challenge UK, where he sustained serious facial injuries.
He previously revealed that he fractured both his eyes and nose after he was involved in an accident on the MTV show.
He was candid in documenting his swollen face in a series of images taken straight after the procedure.
Earlier in the episode, GMB host Kate Garraway revealed her latest telly project away from the show.
She is filming Derek’s Story, a new documentary in tribute to her late spouse Derek Draper.
Derek sadly died in January, aged 56, following a heart attack and long battle with Covid and its after-effects.
