RHOA Alum Nene Leakes Addresses Son Bryson’s Addiction After Drug Arrest, Reveals Lamar Odom Wants to Help, and Reacts to Bethenny’s Union Calls

Nene Leakes opened up about her son Bryson Bryant‘s addiction issues on Carlos King‘s podcast on Tuesday, weeks after the 31-year-old was arrested for fentanyl possession.

As the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum admitted that there’s not much she can do to help Bryson, and confirmed that Lamar Odom, who suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2015 and is now in recovery, has reached out, Nene also reacted to the union calls of Real Housewives of New York City‘s Bethenny Frankel.

“Bethenny has an advantage that I do not have. Bethenny can say things and people will get it and they’ll understand it,” Nene began in a social media clip shared by Jay’s Reality Blog on Twitter. “I feel like she will be supported a lot more than I will be supported.”

“For a very long time,” she continued, “I have said that there is a lot of unfair treatment in different areas of the reality workspace. Reality stars do not receive benefits, they don’t have any health benefits, any residuals. There’s no union for reality stars, all of those things you see. Even with myself, when you see all of the memes and stuff that’s out there, the way your likeness is used over and over and over again and you don’t get one red penny. I don’t get a penny for all of those memes you see out there.”

Although Nene noted that she is a part of the Screen Actors Guild and receives benefits on that side of things, the world of reality television is a different animal.

“Your likeness is used over and over and over again,” she explained. “They can run these shows for years and years and years and years and you still will not get a dime from it.”

Meanwhile, on the July 25 episode of Carlos’s podcast, Reality with the King, Nene confirmed Bryson is doing “okay” after his drug arrest before stating that he “needs rehabilitation [and] a lot of counseling.”

“He has an addiction,” Nene shared. “He’s been struggling with it for years, he’s been in rehab a Couple times and he still have come back out and relapsed. As a mom, just to watch it is… My hands are tied. He is 31 years old. He’s an adult. He has three children, three beautiful children who I adore. He has a wife. It’s not much that I can do.”

According to Nene, she’s “spent so much money” trying to get help for Bryson. However, as of yet, he has yet to be ready to receive that help and make a change.

“Every time I’ve sent him off is because I said, ‘You are getting your a– up and we are sending you off,’ but I learned through counseling myself, he has to say, ‘I’m ready to go,’ not me making him go. So until Bryson is ready to make a change, it’s nothing I can do,” she noted, adding that she’s “kinda numb to it because it’s been happening for so many years.”

As for whether or not her role on RHOA had an impact on Bryson, Nene admitted it likely didn’t help.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the sole cause of it. [But] it certainly didn’t help because we started in television when Bryson was in 11th or 12th grade… So, [he was] having a light shined on [him] that [he] didn’t ask for.”

Also on the podcast, Nene said Lamar called her to inform her that he would be willing to send Bryson to his rehab center.

“He has a rehabilitation place somewhere,” she revealed.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 15 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
