LeBron “Bronny” James Jr., a University of Southern California basketball recruit and son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, was rushed to the hospital on Monday, July 24, after suffering cardiac arrest, TMZ reports. Reps for LeBron did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment.
In a July 25 statement to TMZ, a James family representative confirmed the incident occurred around 9 a.m. at USC’s Galen Center while the 18-year-old was practicing. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital,” the rep shared. “He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”
The rep continued, “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
On July 12, just over a week before the incident, Bronny attended the ESPY Awards in LA to present his father with an award for breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record.
Bronny, a four-star recruit out of high school, announced his commitment to USC’s basketball team in May.
