Aidan Shaw is back. On And Just Like That… season two’s seventh episode, “February 14th,” Miranda dives back into the Dating scene with mixed results; Charlotte has a profound pot-brownie-induced revelation; and Carrie finally comes face-to-face with her old flame Aidan Shaw. Still Watching hosts Hillary Busis, Richard Lawson, and Chris Murphy are here to unpack the entire thing.

For a moment there, it looked like Aidan and Carrie would never reconcile. After shooting out her “Hey Stranger” email in episode six, Carrie begins episode seven by opening her laptop to find that Aidan has not only responded but also asked to meet for dinner. On Valentine’s Day, no less. But when Carrie arrives to the restaurant, she is greeted by, well, nobody. After waiting an agonizing half an hour for Aidan to show up, Carrie is about to lose all hope when she sees her ex-fiancé on the street, having gone to the wrong restaurant. The machinations of this almost missed connection do strain credulity: “She really would’ve waited half an hour at the wrong restaurant without trying to figure out where he was?” asks Busis. “She never thought to get his phone number before agreeing to this Date?”

Believable or not, Carrie and Aidan eventually end up at the same dinner table, and then outside Carrie’s apartment. At first, the ex-Lovers fell back into their old rhythm without skipping a beat. But once they’re standing outside Carrie’s brownstone, old wounds from their broken engagement begin to open for Aidan, causing him to have second thoughts. Lawson appreciated how And Just Like That… gestured back to Sex and the City and all the problems Carrie and Aidan had as a Couple by giving Aidan cold feet, noting that it “would be a sillier fantasy if none of that was acknowledged.” But although it’s acknowledged, Aidan is ultimately able to let bygones be bygones (as long as he doesn’t have to go into her apartment) and ends the episode by kissing Carrie.

“I think that the end of the episode sets us up for more to come,” Lawson says. “It’s very tenuous, but at the moment they’re just happy to see each other and happy to have found each other at the same moment.”

Elsewhere, the surreality continues when Anthony winds up on The Drew Barrymore Show accompanied by Giuseppe, a brand-new Hot Fellas bakery employee with a very large baguette in his pants. This results in a wonderfully bizarre cameo from Drew Barrymore herself, basking in the glow of Giuseppe’s baked goods. “Drew Barrymore is literally on a different planet,” says Murphy. “And I would love to live wherever she lives.” And after setting Anthony up with Giuseppe, Charlotte accidentally eats one of Lily’s pot brownies, landing herself in the hospital but also facilitating an important realization that it’s time for her to get back to work. So don’t be surprised if there’s more of Victor Garber’s gallery owner, Mark Kasabian, as the season continues.

While Charlotte experiences some important career clarity, Miranda, fresh off of not one but two breakups, realizes that she doesn’t really know what she’s looking for in a partner. She goes on her first post-Che date with Amelia (Miriam Shor), an audiobook narrator who initially seems straight out of Miranda’s beloved Jane Austen novels, but who ultimately leaves much to be desired. Rather than stay on a bad date in Amelia’s cat-filled studio apartment, Miranda decides to leave, which Murphy was happy to see. “I don’t have to stay in this small, cat-litter-filled apartment just because this hot woman invited me over,” says Murphy, following Miranda’s thought process. “I have agency. I can leave.”
