Have you ever seen a kvelling Kardashian? Those who were glued to Instagram on Saturday night sure did. That’s when Kim Kardashian uploaded a series of proud mama videos to her Stories direct from the Resorts World Las Vegas, where Katy Perry is in the midst of her Play concert residency.
Throughout the whimsical and kid-friendly show (it does, indeed, feature a giant toilet bowl at one point) Kim took several selfie vids singing along to all the tunes, tagging herself as an enormous Katy Perry fan, and ribbing her niece Penelope Disick for giving occasional “I wish my Aunt Kim would put down her phone” looks. A fun night out!
Finally, the big moment came when Perry called Kim’s daughter North West up to the stage, and the “Firework” singer said she was a huge fan of the nine-year-old’s videos on TikTok. After a little chatter with Perry in full camp counselor mode (this included the youngster divulging her plans to be “everything” when she grows up), a gaggle of North’s comrades joined her on stage with the intent of boogieing down. (Also on stage was another audience member named Lily and, you know, dancers dressed like Chinese food cartons.) Audience participation is a planned part of the 95-minute show.
Instagram Stories are but ephemeral tears in the digital rain, so if you didn’t catch Kim’s missives as they happened, you might never see them, but this was not a private concert event. As such, some in the crowd whipped out their cell phones to record this occasion for posterity. Everyone looks like they are having a tremendous amount of fun. I don’t know about you, but I would be thrilled to do a cartwheel with Katy Perry cheering me on, and then eat pizza in front of 5,000 people.
North West is the eldest of four children Kardashian had with her ex-husband, Kanye West. V.F. has reached out to her to see if Kim had any additional comment about her daughter’s Vegas debut, and will update this story should we hear back.
After the show, the Kardashian clan met with Perry backstage, where everyone exploded with admiration. Perry shared a fun video in which the Skims co-founder said, “Honestly, I’m the biggest Katy Perry fan. I’m not just saying that because you’re here, ’cause I like don’t associate you with …” before referring to all the wackiness on stage. Perry asked if she could “finally be a sister,” to which she was told, “Yes, Katy .. and we don’t even have to change the initial.”
But wait, there’s more! Kim Kardashian wasn’t the only celeb backstage last night. Sia was there (and she wore a Katy Perry kimono?) and Paris Hilton showed up, too, saying the thing that she always says. You can scroll through to witness this for yourself.
