The Academy Awards 2023 honoured the year’s top performers and best performances in the film and entertainment industry, cherishing some magnificent and momentous moments. But this year’s not-so-red but champagne-hued carpet witnessed the nominees and guests capping up the enthralling awards season with their best fashion ensembles.

While many celebrities opted for thought-provoking ensembles defying clichés and conventions, others chose the latest collections fresh off the Runway, or captured the essence of old Hollywood Glam. Some kept it minimal and timeless, others took sartorial risks, debuting dramatic hemlines, laden with diamonds, long, sweeping trains and daring hairstyles.

This is Queen Rihanna, and she never disappoints! With baby number 2 on the way, the beauty mogul raised the stakes high with her maternity fashion, aiming for the crown. Rihanna stunned the Academy Awards 2023 champagne-hued carpet in a jaw-dropping custom belly-baring Alaïa outfit designed by Pieter Mulier. It comprised a dark brown leather bra and maxi skirt combo, complete with a matching sheer mesh turtleneck top. The skirt featured bold thigh cutouts and a show-stopping leather train sweeping the floor, with intricate details wrapping around her neck and chest, perfectly framing her belly. She accented her ensemble with some Moussaieff High Jewellery, strappy heels and a messy ‘mommy’ hair bun, sprinkling elegance all the way.

Florence Pugh in Valentino

Don’t Worry Darlings, Florence Pug garnered the attention of fashion critics as she made a magnificent red carpet statement at the 95th Academy Awards. Pugh looked ravishing in her caped, front-open cream Valentino Couture gown with ruffles, paired with punk black short shorts with pockets underneath. To top it off, the 27-year-old actress wore black platform shoes, a striking silver necklace, and a two-tone hair design, looking gorgeous as ever.

Michelle Yeoh in Dior

Michelle Yeoh not only had a splendidly memorable night at the 95th Academy Awards, becoming the first Asian person to win an Oscar for Best leading actress., she also ticked off the fashion box with sheer grace and elegance. Michelle opted for a heavenly floor-length, white gown by Dior Haute couture, decking a high mesh neckline for a dreamy, ethereal appearance of a fairy floating in the clouds above, topped with a gorgeous tiara-like headband and a million-dollar smile.

Lady Gaga in Versace

Lady Gaga slayed the ‘champagne’ coloured carpet at the Academy Awards 2023 like “A Star Is Born”. The American artist donned a stunning Versace evening gown straight off the runway from the Fall-Winter 2023 collection, and the look did justice to Gaga’s red-carpet theatrics. Her beauty radiated in this sheer black number composed of a semi-transparent tulle bustier top with a panelled bodice up top with a pointed bust and a skirt and a dropped waistline – a look that only Lady Gaga could pull off being a true class act. She completed her look with a custom necklace featuring a central Medusa, bold black eye makeup and hot red lips.

Michael B. Jordan in Louis Vuitton

Michael B. Jordan can essentially pull off literally anything—even a trash bag—and would still look like one of the most handsome men alive on this planet. This time, the Creed III actor looked suave in a crisp custom Louis Vuitton black ensemble suit, which he wore with a white button-down, a black bow tie, and shiny black dress shoes. He also added Tiffany and Co. jewels for the extra edge, looking dapper in the menswear fashion on the red carpet.

Ana de Armas in Louis Vuitton

Ana de Armas channelled Marilyn Monroe in a nude sequined corset dress on the Academy Awards 2023 red carpet. Netflix’s ‘Blonde’ star stepped out to celebrate her big night in a silver floor-sweeping, scoop-neck Louis Vuitton gown with sporadic rhinestone embellishments, which took 1,000 hours to create according to InStyle. The dress comprised the corset-fitting upper bodice with a fit-and-flare skirt made of shimmering 3D petals.

Hong Chau in Prada

Hong Chau exuded elegance in a custom Prada pink satin gown, with a huge train embroidered with fringes and black sequins. While this could have easily been a simple pretty-in-pink moment, Chau brilliantly made it her own by incorporating personalised tweaks, attaining a superb balance of glamour, charm and expression. The black sequined feather trail added the renowned dark sensual mystique charm of Prada, along with the Mandarin collar that became “a shout-out to [her] roots” and to Prada’s 1997 show, which featured a cheongsam-style dress.

Deepika Padukone in Louis Vuitton

Deepika Padukone marked her debut appearance by channelling old Hollywood glamour and flaunting her new Tattoo “82 E” – the name of her Skincare brand. She strutted down in a bespoke Louis Vuitton gown. It is an off-the-shoulder black silk velvet bustier belted gown with a full skirt, plunging neckline and full-length sleeves. The actress elevated her look with trendy black velvet opera gloves by Nicolas Ghesquière, and black suede pumps for a sleek finish. For accessories, Deepika opted for a bold yellow diamond Cartier necklace, a diamond bracelet, and a ring over her gloves, and kept her makeup glam with a centre-parted messy bun.

Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton

Cate Blanchett abandoned her own personal archive for a statuesque Louis Vuitton look this year, comprising a flowy turquoise blue draped velvet top with shoulder pads from a never-before-seen archival collection and a long black satin fishtail skirt by Nicolas Ghesquière, cut from sustainable silk, keeping it eco-friendly. White gold and diamond pieces from the High Jewelry collection by Francesca Amfitheatrof completed her look, and we think she looked absolutely terrific.

Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé

Nicole Kidman chose a custom Giorgio Armani Privé jet-black, single-sleeved sparkling gown entirely embroidered in sequins while presenting the 95th Annual Academy Award. She looked tantalizing as a sequined vixen in her gorgeous ‘outfit of the day’ adorned with a sultry thigh-high leg slit, and intricate giant rosettes embellished in sparkling black and silver sequins, blooming off her shoulder and at the top of her thigh near her waist, brushing against her bare skin created visual intimacy to die for. The actress sported a few diamond bracelets and a pair of classic strappy black pumps, letting the dress speak for itself.

Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab

Cara Delevingne brought the deep ‘red’ romantic mood back to the Academy Awards 2023 in a stunning Elie Saab couture gown with an oversized rose on the shoulder. She paired the scarlet number with high red satin Stuart Weitzman platform sandals and accessorised it with dazzling diamonds, which aligned well with her undeniable supermodel presence—and a face card that always swipes right.

Malala Yousafzai in Ralph Lauren

Malala Yousafzai, the young activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, made a glittering debut at the Academy Awards 2023 as the executive producer of the award-nominated “Stranger at the Gate.” Malala donned the enchanting long-sleeved, silver Ralph Lauren gown that featured a ruched waistline, shimmering head to tone, that embodied her vision of hope alive in her couture gown.

Michelle Williams always looks ethereal with her outstanding red-carpet looks, and this year was no exception. She opted for the angelic route to the Academy Awards 2023 looking otherworldly as she donned an all-white angelic-looking white Chanel Couture gown. The strapless dress comprised a heavily embellished bodice and a sheer cape-like overlay falling forward instead of trailing behind her, hailing in sequins and crystals. For accessories, she added a diamond choker and a Tiffany & Co necklace.

Paul Mescal was the epitome of elegance and sophistication on the Academy Awards 2023 red carpet. The Irish actor looked gorgeous in a white tuxedo jacket and a red rose on his lapel, paired with wide-leg black trousers, a crisp white shirt, a big bow tie, and some patent loafers, all of which perfectly complimented his sophisticated and sexy look.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge eschewed the traditional princess-like red-carpet appearance for a sophisticated black number by Dolce Gabbana accented with Bulgari jewellery, seeming comfortable and poised.  The actress flaunted her svelte waist and bare boning in the lingerie-inspired custom black velvet corset gown with lace trimming, straight from the Dolce Gabbana SS02 collection.

Ariana DeBose in Versace

Ariana DeBose wore a custom-made Atelier Versace floor-length gown to attend the 95th Annual Academy Awards. The gown featured a grey pearl-draped silk candy base twisted to cinch at the waist along with embroidered motifs inspired by the Art Deco movement. It finished off with a deep V-neckline, open back, high-leg slit, and tulle sleeves with embroidered motifs in a play on transparencies, which felt very “empowering, feminine, & fabulous.”

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli

Allison Williams stunned everyone in a full-length nude pink flower-encrusted Giambattista Valli Couture gown covered with pink and silver crystals, with a fluffy opera coat and hidden heels on the red carpet. The back of the dress featured a bold cutout, wound up with a pink bow and trimmed with silver.

Sandra Oh in Giambattista Valli

The 51-year-old actress strutted down the red carpet in a daring orange Giambattista Valli gown from Spring 2023 collection with a plunging neckline and glamorous batwing sleeves, exuding elegance and looking ravishing as ever. Her stunning dress had flowy fabric draped on the hips while the skirt fell to the floor with ruffling at the hem. She completed her look with a large, jewel-encrusted choker necklace by Briony Raymond and heels by Stuart Weitzman.

Halle Berry in Tamara Ralph

Halle Berry wowed everyone by donning a work-of-art white Tamara Ralph halter gown that boasted a high-neck collar and a peekaboo cutout. The asymmetrical wrapped waistline and hip-high daring slit in the trailing skirt added a dramatic flair to her overall look, adorned with gorgeous shimmering rose gold rosettes. She completed her look with gold platform pumps and Pomellato jewellery.

Janelle Monáe in Vera Wang

While most opted to play safe and conventional at the Oscars, not Janelle Monáe. She vowed with the saying “I represent me” in a playful Vera Wang gown, bringing bright orange hues to the red carpet. The cutout gown features a strapless deep V-neck black top paired with a bright draped orange skirt and velvet chokers with REZA jewellery, which made her stand out from the rest of the attendees.
