It seems that things were not smooth sailing for Mauricio Umansky and Kyle Richards in the months leading up to their separation.
In an April interview with US Weekly, Umansky admitted that he and Richards had to “work” on their marriage.
“We’ve had an amazing marriage,” Umansky, 53, said. “We’ve been very, very lucky. Right now, we’re both very, very busy and we just have to keep things going and work at it.”
It was revealed on Monday that the real estate broker and reality star, 54, had separated after 27 years of marriage.
“Kyle and Mauricio have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof,” a source told People Monday.
“They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”
Despite sources confirming their split, per social media, Richards and Umansky celebrated the Fourth of July together with two of their daughters: Alexia, 27, and Portia, 15.
“Happy Independence Day. Hope everyone is having a great day,” he captioned the carousel of photos, where speculating fans had a field day in the comments.
“So we are going to act like nothing is happening?” one user wrote, adding crying laughing emojis.
“Kyle can’t even fake a good smile!” someone else observed, as others pointed out the duo’s seemingly forced “body language.”
Hours later, the estranged couple took to Instagram to shut down any rumors of divorce. However, they did not deny their separation.
“In regards to the news that came out about us today… Any claims regarding us divorcing are untrue,” the statement read.
Can’t get enough ‘Real Housewives?’
“However, yes we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously.”
“There has been no wrongdoing on anyone’s part. Although we are in the public eye, we ask to be able to work through our issues privately,” the reality stars continued.
“While it may be entertaining to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative.”
The statement concluded with the pair thanking their fans for “the love and support” before signing both of their names.
The news of their split came as a shock to many fans as the couple’s marriage seemed airtight on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” In fact, Richards had even posted a selfie with Umansky just hours before the news broke.
The pair also suggested no signs of trouble as they had made several recent public appearances together.
The reality stars are also parents to daughter Sophia, 23, while Richards welcomed daughter Farrah, 34, with her first husband, Guraish Aldjufrie.
