Fort Collins, Colorado-based alternative/indie-rock outfit Race to Neptune introduces their latest single, “Weightless Arrival,” a track lifted from their forthcoming album, The Dead Sea Sounds, slated to drop on June 30.

According to the band, “‘The Dead Sea Sounds’ came to life a few years ago after we recorded our last EP in 2019. Overall, this album touches consistently on the themes of isolation, fear, the unknown, hope, death, and rebirth. It’s also a play on the words ‘The Dead See Sounds’ alluding to different planes, beings, and realms of existence that surround us. The water/ocean backdrop is also a reoccurring setting in the songs to not only give the listener a mental image with the lyrics but also set a tone and vibe musically.”

Talking about “Weightless Arrival,” Race to Neptune shares, “A heavy hitting, riff-driven song that alternates between Brian and Zach singing the verses. Zach came up with this idea and Matt McNear wrote the bridge progression shortly after jamming on it a few times. This song came together rather quickly and is so much fun to play. Zach, Brian, and Matt are playing the same riff while Matt is holding down the intricate, powerful, and in-your-face drum groove. How could one not rock out and headbang to this one? The lyrics are about alien abduction and essentially embracing new beginnings. Brian and Matt P wrote Brian’s lines while sitting at the patio table with some whiskey one evening. We showed them to Zach, and he wrote his around what the two of us had written.”

Since forming in 2018, Race to Neptune has released two EPs, Abandon Fashion and Share My Frequency, with both EPs receiving acclaim from elite media outlets. Race to Neptune’s sound blends elements of psych-rock, new wave, post-punk, alt-rock, and grunge into captivating sonic concoctions.

Opening on dirty, grunge-laced guitars flowing into a tight, muscular rhythm, “Weightless Arrival” takes on tangs of psychedelia as evocative vocals imbue the lyrics with dreamy surfaces. On the extended outro, rumbling drums and swirling tones give the tune lysergic potency.

Vaguely reminiscent of Soundgarden yet at the same time drenched in retro ‘60s psych-rock flavors, “Weightless Arrival” hits the sweet spot.
