Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ ‘LIVE’ Show In Danger As Fans TRASH The Couple’s On-Air Dynamic
New LIVE team, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, have been feeling the heat from critics all week, most recently for piling on too much PDA during their live shows.
Fans have been blasting the married couple in the wake of Kelly’s husband taking over for Ryan Seacrest, who ended his six years on the show Friday. Viewers took to social media to slam the couple after Wednesday’s show, for being too touchy-feely during their opening segment.
One fan ranted on Twitter — “Is there something wrong with Mark’s right hand? It seems it a magnet and Kelly’s leg is metal. Hes [sic] either touching her leg or arm. On the April 19th episode he has touched Kelly more times in TEN minutes than Ryan [Seacrest] did in a week! LEAVE THE MARRIAGE AT THE HOME! I mean come on!!!”
Another tweeted — “LESS married couple of 27 yrs – MORE morning talk show colleagues/cohosts. Please just stick to the hot topics and pop culture.”
One user chimed in — “@kellymarklive#DyingaDeath 3 shows in! It is getting Worse! Will it last the week? Big mistake network choice of CoHost! Pity!”
Another critic added — “Like both of you guys. Together on the show seems a bit awkward though. It’s like Kelly has Mark henpecked, and he can’t really express himself. And Mark is too mushy with Kelly.”
Other viewers cheered on the happy couple and found their affectionate dynamic appealing.
One person commented on one of the show’s Instagram posts — “I (heart) them!!!!! They are just adorable.”
Another wrote — “I’m so happy that you guys finally have a show together power couple of the world.”
A third wrote that the new formula had produced a “positive, fun show.”
Fans have dished out negative feedback all week, with some skeptics taking their concerns to social media before the first show even aired.
Lots of viewers called out the cozy co-hosts for swapping “fake banter” and offering only “boring” commentary during their highly anticipated co-hosting debut. Kelly, 52, was hit with backlash for interrupting her hubby several times during their Monday opener.
Despite the negative feedback, Mark told Us Weekly that co-hosting with his wife “just felt so right” after the couple’s first show together.
The couple was slammed with more criticism after Tuesday’s broadcast, with fans calling their second show “painful” and “uncomfortable.”
Ryan Seacrest, 49, announced in February that he would be ending his time on LIVE to move back to Los Angeles, where he would continue his role on American Idol.
Kelly joined the talk show in 2001 alongside Regis Philbin. Michael Strahan took over Regis’ spot in 2012 and Ryan stepped in four years later. Mark has regularly appeared as a guest host over the years.
Mark and Kelly wed in May 1996 and share three children together — Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and 20-year-old Joaquin.
Live with Kelly and Mark airs weekdays at 9 am ET.
