A CONTESTANT from new show Naked, Alone and Racing To Get Home has told how she thought she was doing to die during the bonkers challenge.

Katharine Piper, 42, took part in the extreme endurance test, which saw her dropped in the Scottish Highlands with only the socks and boots on her feet, for E4.

Together with a male stranger, she then had to undertake a two-night and three-day expedition – with temperatures plummeting to 4C overnight.

Things got so cold that Katharine, who had also failed to drink enough water to remain hydrated, said she began “hallucinating”.

She told Cornwall Live that she could have raised the alarm with show bosses to be rescued, but claimed: “I had gone into a hypothermic state and I couldn’t move.

“I felt like I was hallucinating from hypothermia, because when I looked over at his [her teammate’s] face, it was like when they’d dug up the dead bodies from Antarctica after Scott’s doomed expedition – he looked like a dead person, it was awful.”

Naked, Alone and Racing To Get Home first premiered with a pilot episode on E4 in 2021.

At the time, viewers admitted they were “shocked” and “confused” about the concept of the programme.

But it went on to be commissioned for a full six-part series, which kicks off on E4 tonight (Thursday April 6, 2023).

Each episode sees two competing teams of amateur survivalists stripped of everything they own and dropped into the wilderness.

E4 bosses said: “Across three days, with no phones, money or clothes, the two teams will race against each other, as they battle the elements and use their resourcefulness to forage their own food, build their own shelter to sleep and source their own materials to keep warm in the cold.

“After many miles, a cash prize awaits at the finish line, though only the fastest and most courageous team can claim it.

“The path to the cash won’t be that simple, as they must navigate their own route to the prize using their own instinct and perhaps the help of kind strangers, whilst overcoming a series of survival challenges.”

Katharine, who will feature in next week’s second episode, admits she wasn’t prepared for the gruelling challenge.

Confessing that she lied about being able to successfully forage for food, she added: “You’re deprived of everything to the point that you’re almost going to die.”
