Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to our weekly wrap-up of all things RuPaul’s Drag Race. This week, we take a look at season 15’s makeover challenge and the top four queens are revealed.
Our favorite Ru-cappers and fierce fashionistas are also here to discuss last week’s fantastic Rusical episode and glove-inspired Runway looks. In other news, we meet the reinas competing to be Spain’s Next Drag Superstar and help get the word out about a new campaign to prove to the world that drag is not dangerous.
In addition to all of this, we have videos from Bob, Jaymes, Trixie, Delta, Jinkx and so many others. Let’s not waste another moment and let’s bring it to the runway!
This week on RuPaul’s Drag Race, we return to Drag U (RIP) as the final five queens perform makeovers on a group of teachers. As the episode opens, the queens return to the werk room after Salina’s elimination. Apparently, Ms. EsTitties was a little salty about her elimination and left a mirror message that said, “Guess I got what I deserved.” Loosey, as usual, is sad to see herself in the bottom (although, last week everyone was so good that someone had to be there.) Luxx is in full “I said what I said” mode about her dissertation on the runway last week that boiled down to her feeling that Loosey’s drag is generic and Mistress is just hoping for a Loosey tantrum.
Ru enters the werk room and treats us to another mini challenge (sadly, without my beloved quick drag) called “Spill The Tea” with the lovely Norvina from Anastasia Beverly Hills doing her best Vanna White impersonation. In this game, the queens had to reveal their opinions on their competitors – from who thought they were the smartest (Loosey), shadiest (Mistress), hairiest (also Mistress) to who they thought would be the next to go home (Loosey in a unanimous decision.) Since she knew how to play the game, Loosey emerged victorious, so she can add another mini-win to her list of accomplishments.
This week, it’s time for the makeover challenge. The subjects this time are a group of truly beautiful women, all teachers. Ru explains that since his high school drama teacher – like so many others (shout out to Mr. McCauley!) – changed his life for the good, the queens are tasked with changing these women’s lives for good through the power of drag. Since she won the challenge, Loosey gets to pick her teacher first and assigns the other ladies to their new drag mothers. It seems that Loosey’s picks are pretty considerate…until she gets to Luxx, who feels that there’s some sabotage because Sasha got the lone black woman.
The newly assembled drag families get to know one another. Anetra and her teacher (they didn’t give them lower thirds, so I didn’t catch their names) bond over their common background and Loosey is delighted her chosen teacher fits into her voluptuous vision (with 32HH boobs.) Mistress and her daughter talk about their coming out experiences and Sasha is delighted that her mentee is ready to go as big and padded as Sasha wants (she’s also a natural beauty.) Along the way, fashions are created, names are given, werk room walk-offs occur and it’s making me miss Drag U so much right now. Ru checks in with the queens and then surprises everyone with a twist – the baby queens will have to lip sync for their lives as well.
The runway theme for this week (obviously) is Drag Family Resemblance and the pairings look pretty amazing. Sasha and Ferocity Colby are just stunning in tropical prints and matching “Dolly bodies.” Loosey and LaLa LaDuca are big, blond and beautiful in matching red ensembles. LaLa really looks exactly like Loosey (which Mistress ponders, “Is that a good thing?”) Mistress and Madame Thang reminded me of when Samantha’s sister Serena showed up on Bewitched. They were perfect complements to each other. Luxx and Asia Azul were the only pair that lacked a family resemblance, but Luxx transformed her teacher into a perfect Jennifer Coolidge clone. Lastly, Anetra and Alektra (a/k/a Barbie and Skipper) looked absolutely amazing in pink and black bodysuits.
After the judges’ critiques, the new queens performed Ru’s song “Champion” and they were just having a blast.
Not having a blast were Luxx and Loosey, who found themselves in the bottom and had to lip sync to guest judge Hayley Kiyoko’s “For the Girls.” While Loosey is a great performer, there wasn’t a way she would win over her series rival and sadly, her own prophecy came true and she had to sashay away, leaving Mistress, Luxx, Sasha and Anetra as your top four.
Next week, the final four make a video for Ru’s song “Blame It On the Edit” and we find out who’s going to the finale (Ru says only three are going, but I have my doubts.) See you then!
Before we get to the rest of the news from the Drag Race universe, we have an important event to let you know about. A coalition of LGBTQ media groups and companies is teaming up to fight back against harmful political and media narratives about drag performers and trans people. The “Drag Isn’t Dangerous” campaign aims to raise awareness and funds for LGBTQ causes and organizations that support drag and trans performers, especially in areas that are under attack. The campaign’s website, www.dragisntdangerous.com, will offer resources and information on how to support local drag performers and LGBTQ causes.
The highlight of the campaign is a one-night-only telethon on Sunday, May 7, at www.moment.co/dangerous. Hosted by a wide range of drag performers and celebrities, the event will feature a mix of live and pre-taped performances, appearances, and testimonials from drag performers, LGBTQ entertainers and straight celebrity allies. Initial confirmed talent includes Alaska, BeBe Zahara Benet, Bob The Drag Queen, Brandon Stansell, Darienne Lake, Desmond Is Amazing, Divina De Campo, Eureka O’Hara, Frankie Grande, Ginger Minj, Jackie Beat, Jiggly Caliente, Jinkx Monsoon, Jujubee, Justin Martindale, Katya, Kerri Colby, Laganja Estranja, Manila Luzon, Miz Cracker, Monét X Change, Nina West, Peppermint, Salina EsTitties, Sherry Vine, Trinity The Tuck and Trixie Mattel with many more names to be announced. All net proceeds from the event will be divided among approved charities that support LGBTQ causes and drag performers in need, especially in states where they face discrimination and bans. None of the performers or organizers are taking fees for their work on the campaign.

One of my favorite international franchises, Drag Race España, is back for a third season. The new season premieres on Sunday, April 16th, followed by a weekly roll out every Sunday, exclusively on WOW Presents Plus. Supremme de Luxe returns as host, joined by returning judges Javier Calvo, Javier Ambrossi, and Ana Locking. The twelve fierce, Spanish queens competing for the title of Spain’s next Drag Superstar include: Bestiah, Chanel Anorex, Clover Bish, Drag Chuchi, Hornella Góngora, Kelly Roller, María Edilia, Pakita, Pink Chadora, Pitita, Vania Vainilla, and Visa. Each week, the queens will compete in a variety of gag-worthy challenges and wig-snatching runway categories. Meet the queens and get ready for some caliente looks and drama.

Trixie Mattel does not shy away from the fact that she’s a huge Barbie fan (and I love her for that). In this video, she delves into the history of the iconic doll.
From one extreme to the other, Trixie goes from child’s play to adult entertainment as she and Katya watch and react to season 2 of Netflix’s steamy series Sex/Life.
Season six sensation Darienne Lake is the latest queen to sit on the couch with the fabulous Delta Work on “Very Delta.”
